In October 2012, my wife and I started Jingle Bikes For Kids in memory of my father-in-law. About 10 years ago, he was at Wal-Mart and saw Toys For Tots outside. He wanted to buy a toy and make a donation. While in the toy department, he overheard a little boy asking his parents for a bike and they said they could not get one that year. My father-in-law, being the generous man that he was, did something wonderful. He offered to buy the bike for the parents to give to the little boy, and they accepted, very much overwhelmed by his generosity.
My father-in-law passed away on December 4, 2010 and there isn’t a day that goes by that he is not thought of. My wife and I have wanted to find a way to give back and the memory of my his kindness and generosity have been on our minds a lot in the last few months. We knew this would be a wonderful way to not only honor my father-in-law’s memory, but to also help give children a Christmas they will remember.
My wife and I have put 2 bikes on layaway and they will go to Toys For Tots in December. My wife originally posted about this HERE, I hope you’ll go back and ready the full story behind it.
We were so touched as throughout the day of the original post, family and friends reached out to us to give a bike as well. Our two bikes would have touched my father-in-law’s heart… The thought of others joining in to make even more children happy, would have made him happier than he could ever express.
We are still working out the details, but we know they will go to Toys For Tots in Pinellas County. My wife and I are very much looking forward to helping them out on distribution day. In the meantime, if you would like to donate a new bike to our cause and if you are local, we do have room in our garage now.
