The Time is Near ….. PSP World Cup

P4L_logo w TM

The time is near for PSP World Cup at Fantasy of Flight in Polk City, Florida. This time next week I’ll be swarming the vendors to see what free giveaways they have as well as getting to put my hands all over the latest merchandise in the world of paintball. I’ll also get to sit back and watch some of what I predict to be the best matches of the year. While I’m most excited to watch the Pro games I also have a few friends playing in some of the other divisions and I’ll get to watch as well.

I’m most excited about seeing what new products all the paintball vendors are bringing to the table. From what I’ve seen so far I wish I had won the lottery because I’ve seen quite a few new products I’d like to add to my gear bag. While I’m not quite sure where my first stop will be, I plan on at least hitting Dye, Empire, Ninja Paintball, Virtue, Valken as well as GI Sports to check out a few things on my “Christmas Wish list”. What… I’ve been good this year (for the most part).

I’ll also be dropping by Social Paintball to check out some new products as well. If all goes well I may even end up walking away with a new pair of “Grit” paintball pants. From what I’ve seen online I like them so far but I’m much more of a visual person so we shall see. Their booth is all packed with a lot of merchandise and I’ve never gotten out of there without finding something that I’ve been wanting.

Next on my list is a trip to see the guys from Trade My Gun. I met the guys a few years back and I’ve got to tell you they are definitely on my must see agenda. Every year I’ve gone to PSP World Cup I’ve always managed to work out a deal on some gun that I’ve always wanted as well as sell off a few that I rarely use. They guys are always funny and if you catch them at the right time make some really killer deals that you’d never believe.

One of my usual stops is at the Valken tent. I’m usually there to see Kelly and the gang plus check out any new gear as I look for that awesome deal I just can’t pass up. Ninja Paintball is also a must stop so I can check out the 2013 Breast Cancer Awareness tank which I may have to actually purchase this year. I’ve looked them in the years past and always seem to want one.

While I’ll obviously be rooting for Tampa Bay Damage to win I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all the teams that have traveled from both near and far safe travels and the best of luck. Just the fact that you’re there to be a part of one of the biggest events in paintball should be a victory in itself. The win wouldn’t hurt that much either, but making new friends from all over the world. For those who can’t make it you can always follow my Twitter, Facebook, or even Instagram which I’ll include links to below. I’ll try to send out updates and new product pictures all day long, plus any other interesting things that I see happen at PSP World Cup.

Memorial Causeway and Fitness

Living in Florida we have the luxury of having beautiful weather about 90% of the time which I’m now learning to take advantage of. Cardio is key to fitness and who wants to be strapped to a treadmill when you can be out exploring and enjoying the Florida weather, so that’s what the wife and I have decided to do. Some of you may know but in April she’ll be doing the Iron Girl Half Marathon which involves two bridges. Many people say “Oh no big deal it’s just a bridge” but for those who run can tell you, they are far from it. The wife wanted to mix it up a bit and train for her upcoming half marathon by involving some Florida scenery along the Memorial Causeway. We decided on the Memorial Causeway for many reasons which include location, the fact that it’s one of the bridges she’ll be running next month, length and the incline. Those features mixed in with the gorgeous scenery make for some great times and excellent cardio.

So what I’ve found out is inclines are no joke and an excellent way to help increase your cardio and overall fitness. The wife is using them to help with her half marathon training and I’ve been using them to help improve my cardio for paintball. The rundown of our bridge cardio was very simple, we wanted to go over and back three times in an hour. The total mileage for this after picking our start/end point totaled 3.77 miles. Attempt number one brought us a time of 58:05 which given the fact it was our first time and were trying to gauge how we would handle it. Keeping in mind this is a run/walk activity I feel the number was fair but we always strive to do better.

The second attempt seemed a bit easier, not much, but a bit easier. We found we were able to run a bit more at a slower pace but we were still running. After everything was said and done our time came in at 51:16 so we managed to shave almost seven minutes off of our previous time. We found the incline running to be a bit easier, not much but just a little bit. Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised when we saw this change in our times.

Our most recent attempt seemed harder for me personally, but then again I hadn’t done any cardio in over a week. It’s funny how it takes forever to get into shape but only takes a short time to fall out of shape. With that being said the wife and I were able to finish this time in 49:01, which means we were able to shave off a little over 2 minutes off of our run/walk for the week. Every trip seems to bring us the results we strive for and I’ve had others express interest in joining. Every trip back seems to bring us closer and closer to reaching the cardio fitness we both desire. Although we have different end results in mind, the road to get there is still pretty much the same path.

What have you been doing to increase your cardio? Do you or prefer the gym or exploring the natural sites of where you live?

Playing Hooky From Work

Mark the date…. 03/19/2013 was the day I officially played hooky from work and spent the day at Universal Studios. Though this was technically a vacation day I chose to spend it at one of my favorite places , Universal Studios, in Orlando, Fl. The forecast called for 40% chance of rain, but there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the temperature was perfect. The day started around 7:30 am when the wife’s mom and aunt arrived at the house. They had no clue what was in store for them but we hopped in the car and stopped at our first destination which was Starbucks. After we all had our drinks we hopped in the car and headed towards the interstate, it was at that time they found out that we were going to spend the day at Universal. The wife and I hadn’t been there in a long time, but my mother-in-law’s sister hadn’t been there and was a Harry Potter fan so it was sure to be a fun time. Once we arrived we made our way to the front gates of Islands of Adventure, knowing she was a Harry Potter fan we went there first. To get there we went in reverse and started at Seuss Landing and worked our way back to Harry Potter. Once we left Harry Potter we went thru all the other areas and stopped at Blondies for a quick lunch. We then proceeded to walk thru the other parts of Islands of Adventure making our way to the front of the park to head towards Universal Studios.

Once we made it thru the gates of Universal we proceeded to the broadcast area to make a quick stop in to see a friend and then we were off to E.T. The wife love E.T. so we rode that and then continued to walk the park, but couldn’t help but notice all the changes and construction that was happening in the background. Making our way back to Men In Black, we passed more construction, but the place was still full of life and families enjoying the day as far as one could see. Making our way past Men in Black we passed what appeared to be the home of an upcoming attraction Transformers 3D which I can’t wait until it’s done and I can go back. We rode Twister and then passed Shrek 4D and the Blue Man Group which I have yet to see, but everyone keeps telling me I need to and headed towards the front gate.

Once back in the car and heading home we decided to go to The Original Hooters in Clearwater for dinner and I was perfectly fine with that. What’s on the menu for dinner after a long day at the theme parks you ask? Well I had boneless chicken wings (classic BBQ), medium buffalo shrimp and fries, and of course I had to wash it down with ice cold Bud Light (as always it was a pitcher… or maybe 2). Oh, and who could forget that I always have to have a piece of peanut butter cup pie to take home with me. The place was pretty busy and service was awesome as usual, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from them and that’s why the wife and I choose to go there out of all the other locations. All in all it was a great day of hooky we played and everyone seemed to have fun. I’m sad it’s over and I’m back at work today but I feel another day coming on soon.

Where’s your favorite place to play hooky? How often do you get play or take time off?
